18/11/2016- Revision update

It was lovely to see so many of you on target day. A lot of you took worksheets away with you, if you need to go through any of the worksheets with me please come and see me in the library on Monday after school (3.30-4.30pm) and we can organise a convenient time to go through them together.

I have also made a revision wall, this is full of resources and revision material. This is on the right as soon as you walk through the doors that lead to the library. Please help yourself to any resources that you need. All resources are labelled clearly.

Have a good weekend.

Target setting day!

On Wednesday 16th November you have target setting day. I will be in the library from 9-11am and 2-3pm to answer any English related questions and I will have lots of SPAG worksheets which you can either take away with you or complete in the library.

I hope to see you there!

After school revision session 2/11/2016

After school revision sessions are taking place every Wednesday in J3 (Jubilee block). These sessions are from 3.30 till 4.30pm. You are all welcome to come if you have any English related queries or questions!

For the last few weeks we have been focusing on SPAG.

Last week we looked at the Non-fiction part of your exam. We looked at the conventions of a letter and students had a go at writing their own formal letter. We looked at how letters should use a particular layout. An example of how to set out a letter is below.

The question that the students who attended the class completed is attached below. If you want to have a go at the practice question and you want feedback please let me know, we can then organise to meet and go through your response.

Question 1

In England you are required to stay in education or training until you are 18.

Write a letter to your local MP, making it clear whether you agree or disagree with this requirement.

Prezi

There is a great website called ‘Prezi’!

It is basically like Powerpoint, but on the internet, so everyone can share and explore each others ideas! They are (normally) really visually appealing, which can make subjects seem more interesting and by using things like images and YouTube can help discover new points of view. You have to sign up, but it is free and once you are registered there are millions of files to look at; they will be brilliant when revising.

I have found some that I think will be massively helpful to you guys!

Have a look, you might find useful informationfor other subjects as well!

GSCE English blog!

The new GCSE English blog is now up and running! New resources will be uploaded as the academic year goes on. At the moment there are links up for Jekyll and Hyde, Macbeth and Lord of the Flies. I will be uploading some more material this week.  Looking for something you can’t find? Just type it into the searchbar! If you have any suggestions for the blog, or are having problems accessing any of the materials then please let us know.

Happy revisioning!
